I needed to be pinched when I found out that Tim Schafer got the rights back to Grim Fandango, which also let him go forward with an remaster for the PlayStation. Now comes word out of PlayStation Extreme that there will be a remaster for Full Throttle. This is…wow. This a total dream! I don’t know what started this movement to restore Schafer’s earlier work but I couldn’t be happier. Full Throttle holds a special place in my heart because it was the first LucasArts adventure game I played and the biker-tinged murder mystery made a huge impression on me.
I remember staying up past bedtime (on a school night no less!) to play Full Throttle. It was awesome. You play as Ben Whatshisname, leader of the Polecat biker gang that gets framed for the murder of a beloved motorcycle manufacturer. Full Throttle was great because it had memorable characters (Mark Hamill’s in it!), atmospheric environments, and great licensed music.
For the remaster, it’ll be released on PlayStation 4 and the Vita with updated graphics, enhanced sound (I really hope they can still use the killer music from the Bone Jackals), and a director’s commentary! The commentary in The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition was awesome and I can’t wait to hear what Tim has to say about the game’s development. Double Fine can charge whatever they want for the remaster and I’ll buy it to support him and help pay for Psychonauts 2.
By the way, DOUBLE FINE IS MAKING PSYCHONAUTS 2.
